And let's add boot loader(s) configuration to this.
Yes, in a way that may be INTERMEDIATE, but the problem is that before
there can be Linux, there has to be some Linux partition(s) and a boot
loader that reflects it all.(*) It's easy to slap some installation onto
someone's hard drive by clicking OK at the default suggestions --but will
she/he be happy with it on the long run?
For instance, many newbies may want to keep their box dual-boot. They may
then try to use the gimp for editing their photos on their NTFS partition
(can be risky from what I understand from running Knoppix on XP boxes).
This is just an example, and may be technically solved (I am not
interested in discussing this here and diverting the planning thread), but
my point is that we need to spend some time analyzing their needs and help
them implementing what *they* want (not what we think is good for them).
I always felt that time spent planning a customized partition layout is
time well spent (the opposite may haunt you for a long time).
(*) Of course, above does not apply (or only to a small extend) to Live
CDs --should that be a topic too?
