Jay, If you wanted to get started, you might look into a distribution like IPcop, Devil Linux, or the Linux router Project. All of which were started with this sort of thing in mind. Some tutorials can be found on: http://librenix.com/?inode=2612 http://www.linuxsecurity.com/content/view/115959/65/ http://www.linuxvoodoo.com/resources/howtos/iptables-tutorial/ http://www.linux.com/article.pl?sid=05/12/15/177232
But basically, the tools you will be using are: IPtables (for firewall) and route (or "ip route" on newer systems). Important things to decide early are: Do I want to do DNS Masquerading? Do i need a DMZ? What ports do I want to block Outbound as well as inbound ports? Will this machine serve as a DHCP server? If you need a hand with these decisions or anything else, you are welcome at our next Clinic, this thursday. Or mail the list. -Mike I cannot agree with those who rank modesty among the virtues. To the logician all things should be seen exactly as they are, and to underestimate one's self is as much a departure from truth as to exaggerate one's own powers. --- "Sherlock Holmes" On Sat, 2006-07-29 at 08:26 +0000, Jay Perini wrote: > Disregard and delete my previous server error msgs if you desire, by > the time you get/got this you have alredy addressed the issues with > the server.
