I am migrating from Gentoo to Ubuntu.

One thing I miss is Gentoo's /var/lib/portage/world file. This file
lists the packages that were explicitly installed, as opposed to those
that are installed just to satisfy dependencies.

For example, I installed mplayer, and mplayer dragged in libmatroshka
and libmusicbrainz (and seventy-one other libraries). I don't really
care about the libraries, just about the application. mplayer is in
world; the libs are not.

Is there something equivalent in apt-based systems?

Thanks.
