So the theory goes that cable HD is sub-par because the cable companies compress it to hades and back in order to cram more channels down the wire. Thus, if you are serious about the best quality HD, you should be using over the air (OTA) HD for the best quality.
However, I have recently come across several references to unspecified FCC regulations that require cable companies to carry broadcast HD "as is" meaning no additional compression.
Does anyone have any actual data to back this up? Lab tests, FCC statements, etc?
It's not that I mind an antenna, using a rotator would be nostalgic in a "Hey, get me a beer, and change the channel while you're up!" kinda way, but if there really is no difference between OTA and Cable, I'd much rather save myself the hassle.
To be clear, I'm talking only about broadcast HD here, NBC, CBS, etc. -ajb _______________________________________________ EUGLUG mailing list [email protected] http://www.euglug.org/mailman/listinfo/euglug
