You can't format at linux partitions in Windows but you can delete the 
partitions to reinstall. Right click My Comp, Manage, Disk Management. Delete 
everything that isn't FAT32/NTFS partition.

 Well I finally managed to get as far as setting up the drive partition (with 
no further errors...don't know why, maybe the machine just likes being at home) 
and now I am getting errors suggesting that there are files on the intended 
logical partition that won't let me finish the deed. Anyone have any 
suggestions as to how I clear these files? For some reason I can't reformat the 
drive from within winblows XP.
