Hi all,
Please could give us the report about deregulatedt GFP trasnformation in
E. Coli?
About EU "declassification", it depends if it's a EU Regulation or a EU
Directive. I think we are talking about Directives
http://www.biosafety.be/Menu/BiosEur.html
In this case, in my opinion, each country is free to apply the
Directive, so the "German case" could not be apply for other EU countries...
But discussing with regulators should be interesting to apply this
"German case" to other countries.
Best,
Jonathan

Worth investigating with the regulators: my understanding is, if one
regulator in the EU declassifies something as GMO, then it is
considered non-GMO *everywhere*. I can put the question to our local
EPA, can you forward me anything about the German decision that I can
refer to?

My thought: Last year, Germany deregulated GFP in E. coli for
contained use as not counting as transgenic - in other words free
to biohack. I don't know if the same is true for Switzerland. But
it seems that there will be beginners attending and a
transformation would be the best way to get them started.

Hi Everybody.
@ Danielle. I would recommend you to participate. It's the
best way to get engaged in the community.
@ Luc, Regarding content. Can you share the preliminary
program in a google-doc / Hackpad so that everyone can start
suggesting ideas, talks, workshops and sessions, or do you
already have a plan?

hi all,
I'm Danielle, Im at the university of southern Denmark,
and am setting up different bio-initiatives in Kolding
Denmark. (we partnered in Waag's last biohack academy, for
example, and are now setting up a new lab)
Do you think it is relevant? YES
Would you attend? I HOPE SO
How long should the meeting be? 2-3 days
What should be the program: lots of sharing. Community
driven projects, and Successes in engaging different/new
publics.

So its been a while since this topic was active which
is reason enough for me to push it back up.
However also yesterday I told the Ph.D. student who
oversees my bachelor thesis about the proposed
academic conference/diybio hackfest scheduled for
spring next year and he asked me to send him some info
about it.
Is the conference still on or did it go the way of all
earthly things due to #reasons and if not is there
some info I might pass him on ?
Cheers

Hi All,
Since I am new to this network I would like to
give a small introduction of myself; I am Xiamyra
Daal and I work together with Pieter van Boheemen
at the Waag Society, Amsterdam. I have MSc degree
in Biomedical Sciences and I am interested in DIY
science / labs and education. Currently, Pieter
and I are organising the third Biohack Academy at
the Waag.
Concerning your questions luc:
/Do you think it is relevant?/ - YES
/Would you attend?/ - YES
/How long should the meeting be?/ I think 2 or 3
days would be nice. I think everybody is busy, so
longer meetings would not be inconvenient
/What should be the program?/ We could elaborate
on the Biohack Academy programme and show the
equipment we make.
Cheers,
Xiamyra and Pieter

Great!
Would definitly like to join and i
guess we can gather a few more people
from the biohackerspace in Austria, Graz.
I'd suggest 2 days meeting + an extra
day for those who wish to stay longer.
Workshops!! Practical stuff. Hack
together. Get incredibly drunk.

Subject: [BHL-Europe] DIYbio Europe
meeting
From: [email protected]

Dear all,
As some of you may know, our
Hackuarium association
<http://www.hackuarium.ch/en/> has now
been active in DIYbio (and beyond) for
almost two years.
The past DIYbio Europe meetings in
Amsterdam and Vienna have been a great
deal of inspiration for us and we
believe it would be a good idea to
continue the dialogue with other
European DIYbio practitioners.
We were therefore thinking about
organising a meeting sometime in
November here in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Do you think it is relevant?
Would you attend?
How long should the meeting be?
What should be the program?
If you would be kind enough to reply
to this email with any
comments/idea/proposition you may
have, it would allow us to have an
idea about the numbers and eventually
go ahead and start planning/find
sponsor, etc..
Looking forward to your input!
Luc
