For convenience, let's assume we're talking about 12v batteries (six cells); scale accordingly for other voltages. I'll also give voltages for a 'generic' battery; floodeds are a bit lower, and sealed a bit higher. These are voltages for a battery that has been sitting for at least several hours, with no load and no charging. 12.0v = dead, and 13.0v = fully charged; so every 0.01v (10 mv) difference between batteries represents a 1% difference in state of charge. You generally want them matched within +/-5% (+/-50mv). That means that if the average is 12.50v, the maximum should not exceed 12.55v, and the minimum should not be below 12.45v. -- Lee A.
