Thanks for you input about the diversion load.  That's a great idea and I
may try to do that,
But with the 400 Amp...shortly to be 650 AH  and the rate at which I pull
the energy back out I would like as much as possible going to the load.

I have had several responses but I hesitate to answer them all because I
cannot access them directly.

On the other hand, you could go dirt cheap and just utilize a voltage
sensing circuit and a shunt.

The batteries don't care what voltage is being generated while they are
charging, UNTIL that is, they are fully charged, and then it is
absolutely CRITICAL. So a simple answer is to just allow the batteries to
charge with whatever is being generated, and then dump the
power over to another load once they are fully charged.

If you were generating wild AC, this could be done very simply by directing
the excess power over to a water heater element to make hot
water, which has various obvious uses. With DC, you'll have to use a
specific dummy load.

However, the entire circuit would likely cost under $20.

I haven't seen any specific schematics for 48v, as most are for 12v or 24v,
but it would be adaptable.
