Maybe I'm missing something here but isn't it obvious that the electrical energy is 
coming from the "big generator" and not the "engine"?  The batteries are only 
needed to kick start the generator that then feeds back on the line to run the TVs 
and recharge the batteries.  The engine may not be doing anything at all!  Just 
simple misdirection.  Any magician can do it.

Naw.  Too simple.  There's gotta be more to it. :-)
