Hi, all. Had a good EV experience yesterday. I was out driving Megavolt,
cycling the distance up. I had done all my driving in 2nd gear so far.
There's really no reason to use anything higher on the country road between
my house and town. Besides, I'm still getting the feel of the new pack.

Just as I was approaching the steepest upwards hill in that direction,
someone pulled up behind me. Some people creep along this road at 15 mph,
some like to go 80, and will tailgate you thinking that it will make you
speed up. Since I haven't put the back bumper back on yet, I wanted a
little distance between me and them. As I got to the top of the hill, where
it changes to a long gentle upwards slope, I upshifted into 3rd, and hit the
accelerator. Before I knew it, I was pulling about 165 amps with the
batteries only sagging to about 108V, and was still accelerating quickly as
I passed 55 mph (the speed limit is ostensibly 35 on this road). This was
uphill, and the batteries weren't even breathing hard. WOW! I never could
have done that with my old pack! (Yes, I realize that if I do it too often,
I soon won't be able to do it with this one, either. But boy, was it fun!)

One funny point - the additional battery is high enough that the hood won't
close all the way, even after I relieved the metal ribs under it. It will
close the first latch (the one you have to reach under the hood and
release), but not the second (released via the cable that extends under the
dash). Makes building a fiberglass hood a higher priority. It'll have to
have a dodge shadow style "power bulge" to acommodate the extra battery.

Incidentally, the Electrocraft DC-DC seems to be working great. Of course I
don't have a massive sound system to drain it yet (that's thing to do # 852,
up from 1873).

Now to learn the finer points of home fiberglass construction, so I can have
a hood that closes...
