I use a Gear Vendors overdrive unit on the Dualin'7, my dual motored 1985 RX-7. Just a foot switch upshifts it at full speed with go pedal mashed to the floor...burns rubber at 60 mph when it shifts. My first gear is straight through with a 5:1 differential and second is 0.78:1 (overdrive). It is a very compact unit that weighs 50lb. It would be hard to use on front wheel drive cars because of length added to the motor length, it is about the length of a shorty Powerglide without the torque converter.
