Those are rather valuable cars to be converting. I've owned 190SL, 250SL, and 280SL
MBs, but it got to the point where you couldn't
enjoy them any more. I came out of a mall to find a kid leaning into the 190SL to look
at the interior, and he was wearing those pants
with the ZIPPERS on them ! The guy I sold the 280SL to came out of a restaurant with
his wife and found a guy had dented his trunk lid.
He had the top off, but the side windows rolled-up, and I guess the guy leaned on the
trunk to get a look at the dash. The hood and rear
deck lid on the 280SL are aluminium.

If you had a 190SL that your family had owned for ages, or an old one that someone had
given to you, I'd say knock yourself out, but by
the time you purchase one, plus the cost of conversion, you'll be financially
upside-down in a car that will have declined in value because
it's a collectible that would be modified from stock.

Too bad nobody makes a glass replica of the 190SL like they did with the old Porsche
356 Speedsters. The originals of those have
become too valuable to drive around as well.
