UQM Technologies Awarded U.S. Department of Defense Contract
to Evaluate The Optimum Configuration for an Advanced
Electric Vehicle Contract to Utilize the Company's Extensive
Vehicle Integration Experience To Evaluate and Configure the
Technologies Available to Improve The Operating
Characteristics of Electric Vehicles Tuesday September 10,

GOLDEN, Colo., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- UQM
TECHNOLOGIES, INC. announced today that it has been awarded
a contract by the U.S. Department of Defense to evaluate and
configure currently available technologies in an electric
vehicle to improve the operating characteristics of the
vehicle. The initial project, awarded under the Small
Business Innovation Research program, will span a nine month
period and consist of the evaluation of various technologies
required for the operation of an electric vehicle, such as
battery and ultracapacitor energy storage technologies,
electric propulsion system technologies, electronic power
inverter technologies, energy management systems and
steer-by-wire technologies. Based on the evaluation of the
operating characteristics of these technologies, the Company
will develop the optimum configuration of these technologies
in an electric vehicle with the goal of improving the
operational characteristics of the electric vehicle.

The Company has an extensive history of vehicle development
and integration services including the design and
construction of a purpose built hybrid electric television
studio for ABC television used in the broadcast of the 1982
Olympic Games, the design and development of a hybrid
electric firefighting robot and an autonomous anti-tank
vehicle for the U.S. military, the conversion of a
conventional transit bus to hybrid electric drive, the
conversion of conventional BMW and KIA Motors passenger
vehicles to all electric drive and the evaluation and
characterization of an automotive company's hybrid electric
passenger vehicle for the U.S. Department of Energy, among
others.
