Those that have been following my newswire posts, know I try to post current/newsworthy items as well as offer a mix of other items to add variety. But sometimes items become a 'fish story' of the one that got away.
Below is a post I was to make about how a couple of gliders on ebay from Azure selling off their assets. The links on those sales (below) are now closed. But when I put this item together today, they were alive and well with days to go on the bidding. Hopefully, someone in the plugin community will know if the sales were completed and who bagged them, or if the seller was too disappointed with the low price bidding and killed the ebay listings. - http://www.greencarreports.com/news/1084879_build-your-own-ford-transit-connect-electric-gliders-on-ebay [images] Build Your Own Ford Transit Connect Electric: Gliders On eBay By John Voelcker Jun 18 2013 ht2: Marty Padgett [images http://www.greencarreports.com/pictures/1084879_build-your-own-ford-transit-connect-electric-gliders-on-ebay_gallery-1#100430797 GALLERY: 2012 Ford Transit Connect 'glider' intended for electric conversion, as offered on eBay Motors ] 2012 Ford Transit Connect 'glider' intended for electric conversion, as offered on eBay Motors Remember the now-defunct Ford Transit Connect Electric? It was the all-electric conversion of the Transit Connect delivery van that actually sank Azure Dynamics, which declared bankruptcy in March 2012 after sales fell short of projections. If you've always wanted one, now's your chance. But there's a catch. You'll have to build it yourself. Fox Valley Auto Mall, in Aurora, Illinois, is offering two Transit Connect "gliders": brand-new and complete rolling Transit Connect vans without their powertrains. They were each destined to be converted by Azure Dynamics, but now one or both can be yours. The starting prices on the eBay auctions-- [ http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=171058400045 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-2012-Ford-Transit-Connect-Glider-No-engine-transmission-/171058464754 ] --is $4,000 each, and there's an unspecified reserve. Each van still has plastic covers over its upholstery, and presumably no miles on the odometer. If you've always wanted an electric delivery van, but missed out on the Azure Dynamics Transit Connect Electric (its official name), you have three days and six days respectively to act. Deliveries of the 2011 Ford Transit Connect Electric started in December 2010, and roughly 500 were sold before Azure went under. At a price of $57,400 before incentives, the electric van was hardly cheap. Nor was it particularly fast, with 0-to-60-mph acceleration of about 15 seconds. The rated payload for the 135-cubic-foot cargo bay was 1,000 pounds, and the EPA rated its range at 56 miles. So far, the only company planning to introduce another all-electric small delivery van is Nissan. The Nissan e-NV200 electric van is now being tested around the world, and will likely be launched in the U.S. in the next few years.
