Perhaps to an antique purist, your mods would not be welcome, but I think for the DIY conversion folk, any mods for safety are wise.
I have seen Ford Model A and T's in caravans on the highway (probably as part of a club or group). Driving them in the right lane at 50 mph was likely their limit (for both safety and ice/drive-train design).
