[Assumptions: the evdl aol users are people who are already familiar
with aol thus like it, and or they can not figure out how to use a real
isp, even when everyone keep telling them aol is expensive and not a
straight-forward/real isp.

Back when the Internet was new, before all the affordable isps we have
today, there was aol. That was a long time ago, and it was dial-up
(56kbps, Wow! what are you going to do with all that speed!?!).
I was on aol way back when because I had free access as part of another
deal. At that time, using AOL's email with an aol domain address (i.e.:
brucedp @aol.com ), caused grief with more than just the evdl server /
listserv , there were several times that an aol email sent out to anyone
got bounced, and or just plain eaten (sent to the bit-bucket: no one got
the message, nor knew where it had gone = lost forever).
But, I soon learned that I could log on to aol, and also use an external
browser to bring up a webmail site for my email. Over the years, I have
have several webmail accounts: some were good but soon either died or
had gotten swallowed up by another company, etc. If you are an aol user
you may want to try that trick of logging in to aol (so you have
Internet access) and then not use their aol services for email, but do
your Internet business/activities outside of aol (while still logged on
to aol).
There are several free webmail hosts to choose from, and David had
mentioned zoho is available. I also have a free zoho webmail account.
Its OK, but for the aol user that is most likely not a strong Internet
savvy power user, they may want to create a yahoo email account for
themselves, and use it for their evdl subscription.
Way back when my free aol access deal ended, I dropped aol, and got a
real isp. But since the persons I am directing this email to use aol, I
won't get techie on your bum, and let you continue to pay too much for
not-a-real-isp.
