[video flash] Four other states not ruled out ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —Tesla officials announced Thursday that they broke ground in Reno, Nevada on a potential site for its $5 billion gigafactory. In a letter to shareholders Thursday Tesla officials wrote: "In June, we broke ground just outside Reno, Nevada, on a site that could potentially be the location for the gigafactory." Tesla officials said they planned to break ground on multiple sites before deciding on the final location of their gigafactory. "We continue to evaluate other locations in Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas," the letter stated. "The final site for the first gigafactory will be determined in the next few months, once we have full visibility and agreement on the relevant incentives and processes for enabling the gigafactory to be fully operational to meet the timing for Model 3," Tesla wrote in a news release. The electric car maker plans to use the gigafactory to mass produce its batteries. The gigafactory is expected bring 6,500 jobs to whichever state it ends up in. Tesla also announced it will partner with Panasonic in the project.
