Thanks to a bit of parts-order snooping, electric car enthusiasts have discovered the per-module cost of the i3’s power source. Each module runs $1,715.60 (when ordered through BMW of Bridgewater). With eight modules on each i3, that brings the total module cost to $13,725. For those keeping score, the MSRP on the 2014 i3 landed at $42,400. It’s worth noting that the above total only covers the modules. There’s still the battery housing, cables, and everything else that makes the i3’s battery function correctly. Each individual module offers a 2.75 kWh capacity.
