Not only do they thrive; they *generate* it! Confusion is their most important product. I can't count the number of headlines I've seen that were written to deliberately obscure the actual story, in the interest of "punching it up" to attract more eyeballs.

Much later in the story, it mentions that he died when tree trimmers working overhead dropped a limb on his head.
