The SeaBob scooters are among the new technologies being trialled by Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) in the hope of improving rescue times. They can hit speeds of up to 20 kilometres and dive up to five metres, SLSQ spokesman Nathan Fife said. "If someone is missing, you know, goggles on and the mask and you can go along the bottom of the ocean," he said. "You can dive down to five metres with it, so we're definitely looking at that for search and rescue." One of the scooters was tested in a rescue at Nobby Beach on the Gold Coast this morning. Surfer Nikki Quinlan and her friend were saved after being swept out to sea. Ms Quinlan said she needed rescuing after her leg rope snapped. "When you don't have a board there's not much else you can do," she said. SLSQ will review all trials, and the SeaBob could be rolled out in the next six months if it is approved ...
