Bruce, A year ago I inquired with car2go about the possibility of them selling electric rental cars to the public when they would be replaced with newer models. Car2go responded that the modifications the cars had for rental cars made this unfeasible. Maybe this conversion back from a rental car is doable for a large number of cars.
However, Nissan Leafs are available used now at a very affordable price in California. But, If car2go offers the Smart EV at a competitive price, I can see where a white one with blue stripe and top would look good in the driveway with a great big flower sticker over the car2go logo, just like a VW van from the 1960's. (I bet the car2go logo can be removed with a heat gun) Below is the message from car2go I had received back. I hope they change their mind currently and sell the cars to EV enthusiasts.
