Keith,

IMO do not bother with converting an AVCON to j1772. Why after you have
modified it, it is no longer UL approved so if there is a fire, the insurer
will opt to not pay out. Plus it can be a head ache to get it working, see

Here are only a couple off-the-shelf j1772 EVSE available:

If you still have your heart set on converting an un-insurable/unsupportable
antique EVSE, likely a lurking EV-part vendor has read your post and already
made contact with you off-line. Else, here some j1772 cable links to
explore:

I think it would helpful if you told us what EV you are charging (brand,
model, trim, and what kW rating for the on-board charger, 3kW, 6kW?), how
far you drive that EV 90% of the time, and what zip code area would be
conveniently near by if you needed a 6kW or L3 public EVSE.

If may be you do not know that an EV or pih charging capability is limited
to its on-board charger. i.e.: if you plug a Volt pih or older leaf which
only a 3kW on-board charger, into an EVSE that is higher than 3kW, that does
not increase the charging rate nor decrease the charging time. It is still
max'd out at 3kW (no higher).
