Isn't it? That was part of the "secret sauce" that distinguished the Force from most other conversions. Instead of fabricating an adapter and bolting the motor to the Metro's stock transmission, they developed their own light, high efficiency transaxle. It's one of lots of little details that all added up to unusually high efficiency. Rather high cost, too, but that's another matter. If you really want to fit it into the Insight, I'm sure there's a way. It might involve extensive machine shop work, but if Lee Hart could adapt the Sunrise from a front drive car to a rear drive with Thunderbird parts, surely you can figure out how to bolt an AT2000 transaxle into an Insight. If you have any interest in a different project, my rust-free 1991 Force is for sale. It would be a project, though. The roof, windshield, and hood were damaged when a tree fell on my garage. http://drmm.net/ev/force/images/01-front-left-c.jpg http://drmm.net/ev/force/images/12-roof-front-right.jpg http://drmm.net/ev/force/images/13-windshield-b.jpg One of the nice things about the older Force hatchbacks was that they weighed over 400lb less than the later sedans, 2050lb vs 2460lb (both with lead batteries). That '91 would be a silky ride with your drivetrain in it. Add 180 volts worth of lithium and it would lose still more weight and gain power. It'd be a 1700lb car with 43kW, a better power to weight ratio than a Triumph Spitfire. That little car would scoot nicely. If things were different in my life right now, I'd snap up your transaxle and motor in a heartbeat. So it goes.
