MG Motor India has just launched its first electric SUV ZS EV in the country
at a price of Rs 20.88 lakh.

New Delhi: MG Motor India is looking at launching multiple models to attain
leadership position in the local electric vehicle segment.

The company that on Thursday launched its first electric vehicle for the
Indian market, ZS EV, has already commenced work on introducing an
“affordable” EV within three years.

MG Motor India president Rajeev Chaba said: “The whole segment (for electric
vehicles) will get into a higher gear now … We want to be at the forefront
in that space.”

Nearly 1,000 electric four-wheelers were sold in India in 2019.

While the ZS EV has received 2,800 bookings in less than a month of the
company started taking orders, Chaba said lower price offerings were
necessary to attract millennials and gain traction in mass market.

MG Motor is trying to find a mass solution in the segment, priced less than
?10 lakh. “The moment you have one or two good offerings in the sub-?10 lakh
space, customers will get drawn in,” Chaba added.

The ZS EV is priced between ?20.88 lakh and ?22.58 lakh before road tax,
registration and insurance. Customers who booked till January 17 will get a
discount of ?1 lakh.
