Last time I was in England, they were all electric. They crept silently
along the streets in the wee morning hours, making their deliveries
without a sound to avoid waking people up.
Having the floats also deliver groceries is a great idea! Typically
British to come up with a more humane solution. Contrast that to the US
method of underpaid teenagers in noisy cars delivering pizzas.
I was also impressed by how quiet their garbage trucks were. Not the
roaring diesels, squealing brakes, and metal can bashing that
characterizes US garbage pickup. The British ones were almost as quiet
as the milk floats.
