EVSEs have a ground check circuit. You probably want to make a dummy plug with two 220K 1 watt resistors arranged in a "Y" configuration, with the bottom port of the "Y" (both resistors) connected to ground, and then the two tops of the "Y" each connected one to neutral and the other to hot. This plug is safe to connect to an isolated inverter and will spoof the ground check signal on most EVSEs. I made this one with resistors I had on hand (330k total per side IIRC), and it worked for a Tesla EVSE: http://ingineerix.com/pic/?tesla-evse-spoof-plug
Some EVSEs need more current, so if 220k doesn't work, double them up like I did, that will give you 110K per side which should definitely do it. This will weakly pull the ground to the "middle" of the voltage, so about 60v which is safer than a short. Note that most 12v inverters are horribly efficient, so you'll be wasting probably about 20% of the power as heat in the inverter, battery, and wiring.
