According to Wikipedia, GreatCall uses the Verizon Wireless network.

You could try a test using Verizon as an SMS carrier to see if the patron 
receives a notice.

Or contact the patron and just send them an email at their 
[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>, to see if they receive a 
text.

What we do with these piggy-backing carriers, if the test works, is just create 
another SMS carrier in Evergreen for that carrier.

I would not be surprised if they don't provide an SMS gateway. We've 
encountered quite a few providers that don't.
