We no longer use pennies in Canada but we wouldn't want Evergreen to
automatically round. If rounding was introduced as a feature we'd need it to
be optional so we could opt out.

In Canada rounding to 0 or 5 only happens if someone pays in cash. Purchases
paid using cheques, credit card, debits, and e-transfers are still paid to the
cent.

Subject: [Evergreen-general] Penny Shortage

Good afternoon,

With national discussion around the penny supply shortage and plans to
potentially cease production of the penny, one of our consortium’s library
systems has inquired about potential plans to round monetary values in
Evergreen to the nearest nickel or whole dollar. Currently, our fine rules used
in circulation policies are found to already be set to the nearest 0.25 cent.
However, item prices set for item replacement cost differ and are not always
rounded to the nearest coin or dollar. I wanted to start a discussion to see if
others have begun to think about possible future changes to try and avoid the
use of pennies. Are there any libraries that have already made plans to handle
this change in currency? Your feedback on this topic is greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Courtney
