A speculation on the origin of spacetime amd matter out of cosmic mind (the space vacuum)
No doubt this speculation is not original, but I am unaware of the proper reference. According to Leibniz's idealism, there are two basic interpenetrating states of the universe, matter and mind. Matter is physical and so is in spacetime, while mind is outside of spacetime and is nonphysical. One might say that matter (the objective state) is the physical transformation of mind (the subjective state) Inversely then mind is the mental representation (or inverse transformation) of matter. In the terms of physics, similarly, vacuum space (which I now tentatively propose is Cosmic Mind) spontaneously but very temporaily emits and reabsorbs energetic particles (in the form of quanta) in a phenomenon called the "vacuum fluctuation" : - Roger Clough http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_fluctuation : "A quantum fluctuation is the temporary appearance of energetic particles out of empty space, as allowed by the Uncertainty Principle." At the same time, presumably the space vacuum is independent of spacetime, or one might say that spacetime, the realm of quanta and particles, appear out of the space vacuum. A massive universal transformation of this type might then be the Big Bang. The space vacuum would then correspond in Leibniz's metaphysics to the realm of monads.
