Sagan was my boss for 18 months. I never claimed he was a friend. What university did you attend? I am a Cornell graduate, School of Arts and Sciences. I had a physics course with Philip Morrison. During the Cuban Missile Crisis I correctly predicted the outcome, but still got a "gentleman's" C in my course on International Relations. That's Cornell (at its worst).
