But it's a good opportunity to earn money. If you are long term
investor, you just buy cheap stocks. And you can also make big profits
by shorting the indices. I have right now opened some short positions
for the UVXY ETF which tracks the VIX with 1.5 times leverage. Leveraged
ETFs go exponentially to zero, relative to the underlying index. So,
it's not a problem to have huge unrealized losses, you simply add
collateral to keep the positions open, there is no risk in doing that
due to the long-term exponential decay. As you can see here:

UVXY has lost a factor of more than 4 billion in value since 2011. So,
shorting this for the long term is safe. But you must then add a lot of
collateral every time it spikes. So, the best strategy is to only open
shorts the moment there is market turmoil and the VIX is spiking and
take profit when the market calms down.
