After meeting with him over the afternoon and discussing his
ideas, I can proudly announce that ECCO has acquired yet another
member, Erden Gktepe from Turkey. He should register shortly as a
PhD student in political science at the VUB, with myself and Gustaaf
Geeraerts as promotors. He will come to live and work in Brussels as
soon as his student visa is arranged.
His interests and ideas seem to mesh in nicely with the research
of other ECCO people, especially those interested in
self-organization and complex systems applied to society (most of
us), law (Laetitia), economics (Nick and Bertin) and international
relations (Gustaaf and Kurt).
Below, I include some excerpts from his self-introduction. I'll
leave it up to him if he wants to add further details...
My name is Erden Gktepe, a research assistant in International Relations Department, Galatasaray University, Turkey.
I just finished my MA degree on I.R. Theories, in french. Throughout my thesis, I tried to clarify the differenciation of perception in analysing the relations amongst the international actors by using the complexity theory and selforganising systems view.
I have the intention to do a PhD thesis on, vaguely said, the emergence of cognitive actors as a part of complex socail evolution in the international politics which, i believe, may help to comprehend the evolutionary process of global interactions better.
