I expect the application to be accepted without any problem, given that there are more than enough active members to form a viable group, and that our research domain does not substantially overlap with that of any existing VUB research group. The only concrete result I expect in the short term is that an ECCO entry will be created in the R&D database of the VUB, where we should register our publications and other output that falls specifically under the ECCO theme. In the longer term, this should make it easier for us to get support such as office space or funding.
As a reminder, there is no limit to the number of VUB research groups to which anyone can be affiliated. There is also no specific policy on whether a specific publication or output should or should not be registered under one or more research groups. It seems that we will have to use our own commmon sense, and that those who belong to more than one research groups can decide themselves under which entry or entries their publications are best listed in the R&D database...
