hmmm, i built from source and the problem persists.
i know zero about gnome and guis in general so i'm probably going about
this the wrong way, but...
i ran evolution (the one i built from source) and then tried to compose
a message. then i gdb'ed gnome-gtkhtml-editor and attatched it to the
gnome-gtkhtml-editor PID. i caused the composer to die and tried to
look at the backtrace, but that looks incomprehensible:
