http://www.nongnu.org/mailnotify/ works very nicely. I think it's avail from the Dapper repository for 2.6.1. As a note, if you're familiar with building from source, 2.8.0 is the stable release and fixes numerous things. http://www.gnome.org/projects/evolution/download.shtml http://mail.gnome.org/archives/evolution-list/2006-September/msg00089.html notes what led me to build from src..
