There's a big caveat to the information you posted. If you have nautilus installed, and a few other file browsers, they use D-Bus. Gnome will ignore anything in those desktop files and opt for a dbus session call for starting particular apps over the freedesktop standard. It took me two weeks to figure that out. I use KDE and couldn't figure out why nothing was working after installing some gnome application.
