Sure, it is easier to call for a new feature.
But hey, it works, is a solution for the moment, and it really isn't too
complicated, after thinking a bit about it.
And btw, this is Linux. Default answer for 'Why' is: Because we can! :-)
Noone is forced to use it. It just is a solution for a question, that
came up really often the last days.
