Here is my experience in building evolution-1.3.1 for a none standard location with gnome-spell all under garnome.
The generated Makefile for gnome-spell doesn't work for a parallel install of aspell-0.50 (which is required, API changes and ...) and aspell-0.33 which is the default of all Redhat installations including the newest beta. The *.server files for gtk-html and gnome-spell have to be changed by hand to reflect a none default install. It seems 1.3.1 has the same limitations in selecting a dictionary as 1.2.2 has, i.e in the prefs only. Also it's limited to the default of aspell right now and doesn't allow to enable additional dictionaries. Gnome-spell marks miss-spelled words but doesn't show suggestions. gtk-html can not always retrieve mail from the Drafts folder, seems very unstable. If gtk-html is active and the 1.3.1 main window gets minimized, one can not maximize it again without closing gtk-html first. The ximian web page for 1.3.1 is wrong, if gnome-spell is used it also has to be killed after a shutdown of 1.3.1.
