The Trash folder is not a "real" folder.  It just shows messages that
were deleted in other folders.  They are actually still IN the other
folder, you probably have "hide deleted" selected, so you don't see them
there.

I don't quite know how Evolution does things with local folders (like
for POP accounts), but IMAP doesn't have any options - that I'm aware of
- that allow expunging a single deleted message.

So, that said, this won't work for IMAP, and most likely not for local
folders either since Evolution uses the expunge function on them also.
