This is what I did: Killed the evolution-alarm-notify process and restarted it from the shell with the same exact command-line options as before with an addition of: --enable-sound.
That certainly did the magic, but I didn't like it. Here are some of my reasons:
* The most immediate one: It feels silly having to do this every time I login.
* Invoking evolution with --enable-sound (even after killev/oaf-slay) doesn't help.
* Although I don't know much about GNOME, I can't help thinking that turning the sound on in the Sound preferences should make the --enable-sound option unnecessary.
* I otherwise have no problem playing sounds on my linux. (GNOME sound events work fine, for example.)
I'm using evolution-1.2.2-4 that came with RH9. I've had this no-sound problem in the RH8 days, too, but I'm pretty sure the same fix would have worked, then, also.
Any information would be appreciated.
