Quick update
Not Zed came up with a patch, the bug is closed and this issue will be
fixed in 1.4.5 versions.

Meanwhile, since about 3 hours new snapshots are available, which fix
this bug right now.
$ rpm -q evolution
evolution-1.4.4.0.200309030600-0.snap.ximian.6.1
