now, what does your folder tree look like? It should look something like
this:
Summary
[-] Local Folders

|- Drafts
|- Inbox
|- Outbox
|- Sent
|- Tasks
|- Trash
[-] <Maildir account name>
|- .
the new mail will appear in the folder named "."
