You definitely want to make sure, Evolution is completely shut down.
If you do not --force-shutdown Evolution (no matter if the Evo GUI is
running or not) there likely will be background tasks running, holding
your data (Contacts, Calendar). This can lead to incomplete data (if it
isn't synced to disk yet) and in the worst case even can cause data
corruption.
