I think what David is suggesting makes sense. I assume he wants a way of sorting messages and then, once they've been read, they disappear from everyday view so that only any new messages that appear therein would show up. This seems like a valid folder option that one could "tick" on or off, like "Threaded message view" or "Hide deleted messages". The unread messages vfolder, on the other hand, doesn't work on a per-folder basis; it would be a tedious pain to create a new vfolder (that would subsequently be inefficient in the folder pane) just for this "viewing option".
