Interesting problem. I would tend to think that if the symptoms change at all based on the install of the distro then maybe the problem is occuring in the data-server libraries? You might try upgrading to the latest version of evolution-data-server and see if the issues still occur. I may be completely off base there, but somebody else from the dev team can correct me and tell me to shut up if I'm completely off base here.
