"Component" meaning which of the 5 buttons at the lower left of the window are selected. "Mail" to view your mail, "Contacts" to view your contacts, etc. The 5th button, which is only there if you have Connector installed, is labelled "Exchange" and is used to get to a view where you can do certain Exchange-specific actions (via the Tools and Actions menus).
