Don't use rsync -- do use Unison! Unison (http://www.cis.upenn.edu/~bcpierce/unison) is a GPLed GTK+ (or text-mode) file synchronizer that propagates updates bidirectionally. It is absolutely wonderful. I use it for synchronizing my home directory from my notebook to my desktop (including my evolution directory :-)
