Hi Ben, i solved the problem! Thanx to your input i checked for the file mbox.ibex.index in home/evolution/local/inbox. This file is probably the index of files presents in inbox folder, i thought (even with some risks...) that if the application is smart enough and don't see anymore the index file...it will recreate it! And it has done it ! It has recreated the correct index file. Now the problem is solved and i can again expunge messages. The problem so was in a difference between the data file and the index file in INBOX folder. Thankyou again, Simone.
P.s.: after checking the previous week for some errors on servers, i discovered the problem that caused the corruption of the index file. Infact we are in a NIS domain and the home volume of the user was almost full...when i tried this last weekend to download new emails, probably the disk space ended up...leaving the index file in a position different from the data file! That's the KEY ! :))) now i know...well i will have to go now...i have to say 2 or 3 words to the system engineer responsible of the NIS domain...hehe...bye. Hi Simone, I also had this problem, first experienced around Evolution 0.99. I believe it started when I was deleting many emails one after the other (pressing the trashcan icon over and over again), although this is just a hunch and hard to back up with proof. In my situation several of my oldest messages in the folder (I keep many thousands of messages in my Inbox) could not be read. I ended up making a copy of my Inbox and hand editting the copy to remove what I believed were irrecoverable messages. When I started up Evo again, the irrecoverables where restored, and my expunge problem had gone away. I *DO NOT* recommend you do this unless you are confident in preserving your valuable messages. I suspect a corruption in one of the following: $HOME/evolution/local/Inbox/ - mbox - mbox.ev-summary - mbox.ibex.index - mbox.ibex.index.data so hopefully someone else on the list can explain the ordering and interaction between these files, and if there are any tools to correct corruptions.
