Tziporet & EWG members,

iWARP customers including Sandia Labs have asked that we include this in OFED distributions to correctly unify the
host stack and iwarp stack TCP port space.

I recommend we maintain this patch as part of the OFED distribution.

I you agree, then we can pull this in as a patch file in kernel_patches/fixes/ for ofed-1.4.

Thanks,

Steve.

For background, here are threads where this issue was discussed.

Here is where the issue was discussed on the open fabrics list:

Here is where the linux maintainers NAK'd any such patch:

While the linux community hasn't yet resolved this issue, I think the OFA must do something.

Currently, the iwarp stack and the native stack don't synchronize their ports and under heavy loads there can be collisions that will be very hard to debug. I believe the OFA should at least provide _some_ solution in OFED to ensure correctness. The patch is simple and solves the problem at the expense of allocating a kernel socket (ie wasting some memory).

I will pledge to work with Sean and Roland and the netdev maintainers to try get something upstream. Once that happens, we'll align the OFED code accordingly.
