POSITION SUMMARY: The Senior Linux Systems Engineer is Contract
position responsible for the proactive monitoring, troubleshooting and
engineering of the various Web infrastructures and Internet facing
websites supporting real-time news/content delivery as well as revenue
generating e-business applications. Responsibilities include: tier 3
technical support of web infrastructure, adherence to ITIL change/
incident management processes, planning and coordination of business
outages for system maintenance, engineering and architecture of web
infrastructure components. The position requires strong communication
skills, excellent diagramming and documentation skills, and a
motivated drive to improve technical services and service delivery to
business and the external facing customer base.
SKILL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• Adapts quickly to changes in situations or business environment
• Experience with large scale web environments including e-business
and media delivery.
• Experience in configuring and orchestrating automated code
deployments to production
• Experience in developing and enforcing configuration build
standards
• Experience in automated and rapid system deployment technologies
(ex. Kickstart, PXE, RIS, etc)
• Proficiency in the following technologies
o Expert in Linux systems administration with a strong focus on Web
technologies
o Highly proficient in performance management and troubleshooting
toolkit use (ex. Dtrace, sar, tcpdump, etc.)
o Database experience with MySQL, PostgresSQL, and Sybase
o Expert in managing LAMP stack systems including configuration,
administration and standards creation.
o Experience with Perl, PHP, Pluck, Wordpress preferred.
o Experience with storage technologies, preferred EMC and Netapp.
o VMware server management and performance tuning
o Server performance monitoring
o Web Site performance monitoring
o Uptime Service Level monitoring
o Advanced knowledge of networking technologies, TCP/IP, IP security,
DNS, SMTP, NFS, DHCP, FTP, switching, circuit and WAN integration/
strategy
o Administration of high availability multiple node clustering
technologies for database and business application availability (Red
Hat Cluster Services, MySQL Cluster, Sun Cluster, Veritas, etc.)
o Proven history architecting and leading successful virtualization
projects
o Experienced with load balancing and failover methodologies including
Cisco, F5, and Software based load-balancers
• Strong written and verbal skills.
• Advocates new technologies which align with and improve upon
business services
• Excellent analytical/troubleshooting skills
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelors Degree in IT or related field, equivalent experience
acceptable.
• Certifications for Red Hat preferred, ex. RHCE
• 5 to 10 years of large enterprise web infrastructure experience
